Sony to lay off 8,000 full-timers

Author: While 8,000 may be a drop in bucket compared to the 160,000 total workers it’s still a troubling amount and is yet another example of the technology and electronics industry scaling back for tough times ahead. Considering Sony has branched out in full force into the SLR with their Alpha series, especially the A900, who knows where this will leave the photography market for the year to come.
Sony plans to lay off 8,000 workers in its electronics business worldwide as part of a broader plan to trim expenses and tighten its focus in a difficult financial climate, the company said Tuesday.
The Japanese electronics and media giant, which currently has a full-time global workforce of 160,000, joins a long list of tech companies that have cut jobs and scaled back production.
