Further proof I’ve lost my mind
If buying the Bug wasn’t enough, Donna talked me into participating in a bike race. Not quite a bike race in the traditional sense, more of a big fund-raier for the American Red Cross. This Saturday I’m participating in the “Go For Blood” event and my big mouth decided to do the 63 mile portion of the program. This will be longest bike ride I’ve ever done. I’m not sure what I was thinking when I agreed to this, but I guess now I have to get my act together and put on a good showing.
Quasi Porsche
It was back in my first years of college when I last had a VW bug. Donna had hers in the final years high school. But as of last night that changed. From the ruins of some forgotten field came a Volkswagen that Donna found on Craiglist – his list is so dope! It’s not a beauty by any means and it will need plenty of work, but it seems the foundation is reasonable and as a bonus the car starts and you can actually drive it!
But as with my bug of days gone by this one showed some tricky signs right off the bat. Driving it home was a bit of a chore. I’m not sure if it was overheating or since it had no exhaust pipes it was choking itself out from the fumes, but the engine shut off 4 times on the 15 mile drive home. It wouldn’t be a bug if you were hanging out on the side of the road waiting to try and start it up again.
There were a couple of times where I was working the brake with my left foot and pumping the gas with my right to keep it running, just like I used to do in college.
And dammit, it still smells like my VW from 20 years ago! Seriously, does that smell ever go away?
