Holiday Roasted Turkey Rub

This is a very simple but flavorful rub for Thanksgiving and Christmas turkey. Most people should have all the ingredients on hand. Simply mix everything together in a small bowl and work the rub under the skin and over the breast. You should also be able to cover the drumsticks. This should be enough for roughly a 14 pound bird.

If you don’t have the individual ingredients of rosemary, sage, thyme, oregano and basil, a good Italian Seasoning will be a fine substitute. It has many of the same ingredients.


3/4 cup olive oil
3 tablespoons minced garlic
1 tablespoon Rosemary
1 teaspoon Sage
1 teaspoon Thyme
1 teaspoon Onion Powder
1 teaspoon Oregano
1 teaspoon Basil
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon parsley (optional)


2 tablespoons Italian seasoning


In a small bowl, mix the above ingredients and set aside.

Wash the turkey inside and out; pat dry. Loosen the skin from the breast. This is done by slowly working your fingers between the breast and the skin. Work as much of the skin loose as you can. Be careful not to tear the skin.

Spread a generous amount of the rosemary mixture under the breast skin and down the thigh and leg. Rub the remainder of the mixture over the outside of the breast and drumsticks.
