What to do with the Kindle Fire?

So, I figured out what I’m going to do with the Kindle Fire -use it as a big iPod. Easy now, hold the disappointment and disapproving looks. There’s method to my madness. Ok, first off, the Kindle Fire looks like an iPod so that alone means I should use it for music. That might not be enough for some people so how about this. The Fire hooks into Amazon and downloads music like a champ. I purchased two CDs today and it was incredibly simple. I can either play the songs from the cloud or download them. Since my actively listening music collection is relatively small, I plan to download my playlist to the Kindle (I’ll actually use a Micro USB cable to do a direct transfer). In case you were wondering, that’s about 1400 songs. I’m not one of those people that has 50,000 songs and I don’t believe I ever will be. I don’t believe I’ve heard 50,000 songs I’ve liked. I certainly couldn’t name that many. My collection is small and the stuff I really listen to. If I feel like branching out, I’ll use Pandora.

Now I would look quite foolish with a Kindle in the front of my pants so obviously this is for around the house or at my desk sort of music. The iPod will handle musical duties when I head out into the real world. This is more to give the iPod a break from having to be constantly recharged. Plus, I want to check out the Fire’s musical capabilities. And I’m not really sure what to do with it right now.

As an aside, I did play some movies and they looked quite nice. I will also say that Netflix works flawlessly. It took a minute to find the volume control, but once again, you have to click the little config gear in the upper right hand corner to make the magic happen.
