Good keyboard and mouse combination

Author: I’ve been looking for a good keyboard and mouse combination and so far it’s not going well. I originally bought the Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000, because way back in the beginning of time I had the original Natural Keyboard and loved it. Sadly, the new model doesn’t compare. The keys are stiff, it makes a lot of noise and it’s hard to type on.
I bought the Desktop 3000 Keyboard and it’s much better, but I feel I could do better.
I’ve tried several Microsoft mice (do you notice a trend here?) and they have all been horrible. The last one I got had the oddest shape and moving the mouse wheel was like pushing it through quicksand.
Any suggestions on a good keyboard for writing and a comfortable mouse? Clearly I need to avoid the Microsoft brand in the future.
