We’re heading out to ride bike on the Blue Ridge Parkway

Donna and I are going on a bike adventure we’ve talked about doing for years. When we bought the commuter bikes, we promised ourselves we would travel with them. We promised we would fill the saddle bags and head off somewhere. We bought books about the trails that crisscross the country. That was well over a year ago, but we’re finally doing something about it. We threw caution to the wind, booked some hotel rooms and headed to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway.

It’s Memorial Day Weekend, I already have a long weekend off, the bikes are packed and we’re on our way to the first stop on the trip – a small little hotel right in the heart of Blowing Rock. The Parkway itself is about 2 or 3 miles down the road. After all this time, we’re jumping in with both feet. It’ll be our first "touring" adventures so we’ll see how we fair. It won’t be anything like you see with 100-pound packs strapped to the bikes. This will be something far simpler – a day’s worth of clothes, some drinks and a whole lot of "let’s hope for the best!"
