A trip to the Chiricahua National Monument in Arizona in 2006. This national
park is loaded with rock formations that really make you wonder. Balancing
rocks, towers that look like pipe organs, rocks that look like a face and
all sorts of other things. It didn't look much like Arizona at all. But it
was truly impressive. We went hiking through the park, climbing over rocks
and walking through narrow slits in the rocks. Again, it looked a lot more
like Colorado than Arizona. A lot of the rock formation just made me wonder
how they got to be that way. How does one rock end up balancing on another
one like that?
On the way up to the monument we went through the Arizona wine country. I
was as surprised as you that Arizona had a wine country! As you can see in
the top few pictures, wide open plains, fields of tall wavy grass and
mountains as the backdrop. I guess there could be worse places to try and
make wine. A few small vineyards had made a go of it and they actually
produce some pretty good results. We each bought a couple of bottles to take
back with us. You never know what you're going to find out there.
