The Tonto National Park really took me by surprise. Randy said we were going
to see a natural bridge, whatever that means. I wasn't expecting to see
waterfalls and running streams in the middle of the desert. The main
attraction is the Natural Bridge which looks like a gigantic hole! And not
the one in my head, but a real one! Water
falls from the top as show in the pictures and sends a spray everywhere when
it hits the rocks below. There is a large pool at the entrance. The funny
thing is, you don't get the scale of how big this "cave" is. If you look
carefully you can see some people climbing on the walls in the last row of
pictures. That's really when it hit me just how large this opening is; at
least 200 ft. You have to judge your timing with the spray of the water.
When the wind catches the flow it goes everywhere. So you wait for calm
moment then dash on in. Of course, this is Arizona so getting splashed with
cool water really wasn't a bad thing.
I'm pretty sure Randy was fully expecting to find me wading in the pool at
the entrance. This place really was amazing and I don't think you can get
the true sense of it from the pictures.
