On Sunday I was invited to come down to the Carolina Motorsport Park for the
Carolinas Region Porsche Club of America, Drivers Education Event. It was an
exciting event for drivers to learn how to work their way through the track
with a certified instructor. No, I wasn't behind the wheel, I was behind the
camera. There was an exciting array of Porsches on display such as the
Porsche GT3, Porsche Carrera 4, 993, 914, 944 and Turbo GT to name a few.
But other cars were welcome such as a Mini Cooper, Lotus Elise, Subaru WRX,
Corvette, Ferrari, BMW and even an old Datsun 280Z made an appearance. These
guys know how to drive and it's a very impressive course to watch with
plenty of turns and straight-aways.
This was the second big test of the 70-200m lens and again, it went very well. I
was able to get the cars from lots of different angles and had not problem
getting shutter speeds at 1/1000 sec and higher which makes the cars stand
still. :)
It was pretty exciting to watch the drivers compete against the clock to set
their personal best around the track. There was a lot of raw horsepower
being displayed and some pretty impressive driving. It was a great
experience to see all the cars and meet some of the drivers. A big thanks to
Harvey Yancey for inviting me down for the day.
